SEIU Florida Announces Support for Charlie Crist and Val Demings with 2022 Endorsement Roll-Out

MIAMI (June 16, 2022) - SEIU Florida, one of the state’s largest unions representing over 80,000 diverse professionals and essential workers statewide, has announced a slate of more than 60 endorsements in the 2022 August primary and November general elections, including support for Charlie Crist and Val Demings. The latest round of endorsements includes both democrat and republican candidates and comes on the heels of a prior announcement made last month in which the organization endorsed more than 30 candidates statewide.

“This election comes at a critical time for working families and we must elect public officials that believe in protecting workers’ rights and in creating communities where all families and individuals can thrive,” said Martha Baker, RN, President of SEIU Florida’s State Council. “Working Floridians are the backbone of our economy and deserve the ability to support their families and live with dignity. We will continue to support candidates who have stepped-up for the working people of Florida.”

SEIU Florida members provide essential services in Florida’s hospitals, nursing homes, public schools, community colleges, universities, municipal and county governments, airports, and fast-food establishments. The organization advocates for issues facing working Floridians such as workers’ rights, local democracy, conditions in the workplace, increasing access to quality and affordable healthcare, and corporate accountability and tax reform.

“Hard-working Floridians – who put themselves at risk every day to provide our healthcare, education, and other daily needs – are struggling to pay their bills and provide for their families. Elected officials must recognize and respect the role essential workers play and honestly address the real issues facing everyday Floridians, such as affordable housing, fair wages, and access to quality, affordable healthcare,” said Roxey Nelson, Vice President of SEIU Florida’s State Council. “Florida deserves better. We need leaders who will invest in improving the quality of life for all, regardless of race, gender, job title, zip code or party affiliation.”

SEIU Florida’s endorsements range from Florida Gubernatorial, Cabinet, Congressional, State Senate, and State House to local school board and county commission races. An alphabetical breakdown by county is listed below. To view a list of the prior 2022 endorsements, click here.
